Meet Our Board of Directors

Mitch Beres, President

Mitch is a long time member of the Learning Disabilities Association of America. He and his wife have raised two children with learning disabilities with the oldest one just graduating college and the younger one set to graduate next year. He is retired business executive having spent his career working in a number of financial institutions. His expertise has been the ability to review and recreate processes and operational flows to become more operationally efficient as well as customer focused.

Safaa Haddou

As a mom of a child with a learning disability, Safaa experiences it firsthand. A few years ago, she decided to quite her regular job and join the school system as a Special Education Teacher Assistant. She has been assisting families with their IEP meetings and guiding them to be able to advocate for their children. Safaa has been a LDA member for over 4 years and is thrilled to be part of this amazing community and cannot wait to lend a helping hand when and where it is needed.

Sheila Marble

Sheila Marble is an Immigration Practitioner working with vulnerable immigrants seeking legal status in the United States. She has also worked as a Deputy Project Director with parents of children with special needs.

Sharon Blatz

Sharon has been an associate professor of special education at a local university for 15 years. She coordinates and develops programs that prepare special education teachers to work in K-12 settings. Prior to being a professor, Sharon was a special education teacher for 15 years. She has been a member of LDA throughout her career and is excited to be part of this network of people who are supporting individuals with learning disabilities.
